I have come to realize that the Bible is not something to be taken lightly. The truth is that the answers to life are only found in its pages. Yet many of us do not seriously take the time to read and understand this amazing book.
Recently I was teaching on the book of Ruth and I found so many new truths that I had never discovered before. Well, it is hard to discover new truth when you read thru the book in a hurry. I had read Ruth before, but I had read it as one of those really great short books of the bible that can be checked off my "Reading thru the Bible in a year" lists and I moved on. This time I really read the book and I asked God to reveal new things to me. It's an amazing book when you slow down and actually try to understand what you are reading.
I believe many Christians view the Bible as something they just have to get through each day.
Brush our teeth...check
Comb our hair...check
Eat breakfast...check
Read a few verses in the Bible...check
Work out...check
It becomes just something to get done and not something that can change your life.
If your see yourself in this description: let me encourage you to try something new. Try slowing down and really concentrating on what you are reading. Don't view it as a task to get through, but as something to enjoy. If you are in a place where you would like to get more out of your Bible, but don't know how...we've got something for you.
If you attend Colonial Woods...starting on November 7th, at 6:45pm, we will be offering a 4 week class on how to study and get the most out of your Bible. Jonathan Seller will be giving you practical ways to make your time with your Bible mean something besides a check on a list.
The Bible was never meant to be a boring book that we had to suffer through. It was and is meant to be a book that can change your life.
