Blind and Blurry

Well this is, by far, not the best picture of me, but it is exactly how I feel at the moment. I just went to the eye doctor and they blinded me. So I am doing the sunglasses thing and feeling blind and blurry. I am guessing at my typing and will probably have to go back and fix my mistakes when I can finally see my computer screen.

But that is off the beaten path of why I am writing today. I wanted to let you all know that this summer you will have a number of chances to talk with and get reacquainted with a number of our missionaries.

This year we will have more missionaries home and visiting the church than we usually have in any one summer. The Chandler's who have been serving in Haiti will be in the States for the upcoming year, the Collins' who are serving in Ireland will be around for the summer and fall, a young African man will be sharing with us what God is doing in Mali in September, the family serving in China will be with us in August and the family serving in Morocco will be with us in September.

As each of these families come and share with us, it will be a great chance to hear what is going on around the world. Those serving in Asia and the Middle East have some great stories of what God is doing in places where freedom is not a luxury that people have and you will not want to miss these updates.

Let's face it...when most of us hear that there is going to be a missionary speaker, we decided to just skip that service since it will probably be some boring speaker showing us slides of old buildings. Well if that is your idea of listening to a missionary speaker, you haven't been paying attention lately.

Today's missionaries are sharing all kinds of amazing stories of God doing miraculous things around the world. I think of the Black's being attacked on a road in Africa and being shot at, but not being wounded. They thought the men were shooting blanks, but after getting their guns from them, they found that indeed they had been shot at close range with real bullets with no injuries. I think of Paul Schultz traveling around on his bike in Chad following Muslim riots in the streets and being kept safe and many other stories that show the hand of God moving to see the gospel proclaimed to unreached people.

If you think missions is boring then you don't have a clue about missions. These people are truly living on the edge. So....this summer...when you hear that a missionary is going to be speaking...don't skip the meeting...come...and expect to hear things that will amaze and inspire you to do greater things for God in your own life.
